Born in Manhattan but raised in the South Bronx, I've been playing Maria on Sesame Street for over thirty-five years. The world has changed quite a bit since I was first cast. At that time, there were few Latins on television, and few mainstream Americans knew about us. Now the general public is ranting and raving about how there are too many Latins in America, and sadly,questioning some Latinos right to be here.

Rotten Blogging

Okay, I admit it. I'm a rotten blogger. I can't get around to posting regularly. Let me give it another shot. Here's what I'm up to:

-my second children's book A BOX FULL OF KITTENS was published in June 2007.

-my next speech will be at the Kiwanis Club convention in Orlando, FL on June 28th.

-I'm doing a children's show for a Bronx River Alliance celebration on June 21st. (What can I say -- I can't stay out of the Bronx).

-I'll be in St. Louis Missouri on July 18th speaking at a school board convention.

-I love reading Selected Shorts with Symphony Space in New York and do that whenever possible.

-I'm almost done with my memoir! Yay!

-and SESAME STREET continues....
